There will be two classes a week, of four hours, for five weeks. A total of 15 teachers from different schools of Sylhet and Moulvibazar are attending the course. 

The TKT course is designed around three modules of the exam:

  1. Module 1: Language and breakground to language learning and teaching.
  2. Module 2: Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching. 
  3. Module 3: Managing the teaching and learning process.

This course will only focus on module 2. The remaining modules will be run between July and October 2012. Interested teachers are requested to contact UKBET office to get more information about the courses.

But my ideas have been changed by the volunteers of Preparing for Life in the UK project. Now I would rather say that I would be the architect of my life there. I had to undergo a lot of mental pressure due to these wrong information. Thanks a lot to my beloved volunteers of the project for their support and motivation. These excerpts are from speeches given by learners of Preparing for Life in the UK (PLUK) project at a certificate awarding ceremony on 15 March 2012 in Goalabazar. A total of 21 women attended the course which were organzied between December 2011 and January 2012.

The "Preparing for Life in the UK" project aims to support the integration of women from Bangladesh who are planning to settle in the UK. In the second year, more than 55 women from Sylhet, Beanibazar, Bishwanath and Goalabazar Upazilas have benefited from this free pilot programme delivered by UKBET, acquiring valuable information and skills to help them to take an active part in life in Britain. The workshops covered issues such as using public transport, money & shopping, health, leisure, learning opportunities, employment, domestic violence, household chores and travelling to the UK. The workshops were facilitated by UKBET-trained teachers with support from UK volunteers.

One of the best wasys of learning English or any language is by reading literature. To give the opportunity of reading world literature in English in a simplified way, UKBET in partnership with British Council is going to run 'Book Reading Competition' for primary, secondary, higher secondary and university level students through the following activities:

  • Reading books
  • Writing reviews
  • Taking part in the final evaluation test.

Certificate and prizes will be given at the end of the competition on the basis of the performance. This year a total of six schools are participanting in the competition:

  1. BIAM English Medium School, Bishwanath.
  2. Sunny Hill International School & College, Uposhahar, Sylhet.
  3. Cambridge Grammar School, Pir Mohollah, Sylhet.
  4. Shining Jewels School & College, Uposhahar, Sylhet.
  5. Gobindagonj ML High School, Gobindagonj, Chhatak. 
  6. Lalabazar ML High School, Lalabazar, Sylhet.

UKBET in partnership with the British Council has successfully organized a10-day (four hours per week for ten weeks) TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) training course for teachers of English at secondary level school. The training was held between 10 February and 20 April 2012. A total of 15 teachers from Sylhet, Sunamgonj and Moulvibazar district attended the course. TKT is a test developed by Cambridge ESOL for teachers of English. It tests teachers' knowledge of:

  • Language and use of language.
  • Background to language and learning.
  • Practive of language teaching and learning. 

The TKT consists of seven modules and this course focused on Module 2: Lesson planning and use of resources for language learning.

A certificate awarding ceremony was organized at the end of the training. Kathryn Kelly, English Language Advisor. Mirza Beg, English Projects Manager and Sarwat Masud Reza, Resource Centre Manager of British Council were present in the programme.
