A groundbreaking project celebrates its first year!

The "Preparing for Life in the UK" project aims to support the integration of women from Bangladesh who are planning to settle in the UK. In its first year, more than 50 women from Sylhet, Beanibazar, Bishwanath and Goalabazar Upazilas have benefited from this free pilot programme delivered by UKBET, acquiring valuable information and skills to help them to take an active part in life in Britain.

The workshops covered issues such as using public transport, money & shopping, health, leisure, learning opportunities, employment, household chores and travelling to the UK. The workshops were facilitated by UKBET-trained teachers with support from UK volunteers. Certificates were presented to the learners after the workshops.

Stakeholders, especially the workshop participants and their guardians, were very enthusiastic about this innovative project. Most of the guardians felt that their daughters would have an easier time settling and living in the UK as a result, and they themselves now had fewer anxieties about their daughters’ futures.

The second year of the project is going to start soon. Anyone interested in further details should contact UKBET!
