English Language Zone (ELZ)

UKBET is now adding an extra dimension to its work.  We have started working directly with secondary school students through increasing their access to spoken English, particularly in rural areas. We are supporting individual rural schools to develop an English Language Zone and English Language Clubs where communication will be entirely in English. So far we have established four ELZs in the following institutions: 

• Gobindagonj High School, Gobindagonj Bazar, Chhatak, Sunamgonj. 
• Gowainghat High School, Gowainghat.
• Charkhai High School, Charkhai, Beanibazar.
• Beanibazar Adarsha Mohila College, Beanibazar.

The activities in ELZ include issue-based discussion sessions, film shows, games, debates and drama. BBC Janala (www.bbcmediaaction.org) is going to work with us in ELZs from June 2012 through providing material support.
