About us

Much of our work takes place in schools across the District of Sylhet. We work with teachers, running training courses and workshops. We help them create ‘English Language Zones’ and Language Clubs that encourage the confident use of spoken English.

We also run a range of occasional workshops, master classes and conversation courses as well as programmes customised to the needs of particular schools.

UKBET can provide Study Tour programmes for U.K. teachers and other professionals who want to learn about education and other aspects of life in Bangladesh.  In addition we have a history of successful volunteer placements of U.K. professionals for short and longer-term assignments.

UKBET is currently a partner in ‘Preparing for Life in the UK’, a project that provides free workshops for women planning to settle in the U.K.  It is run by local teachers together with volunteers from the U.K. and funded by the European Integration Fund until 2013.

Funding for UKBET comes from charitable donations and income earned from teacher training programmes and other activities. Our ambitions hugely outstrip our very limited resources!
